The painting is based on a nature area here in Northern Sweden: Arboretum Norr, Baggböle in Umeå.
North and south of Baggböle just outside the center of Umeå is Arboretum Norr, a forest garden with about 2800 different trees and shrubs. The area is beautifully situated with deciduous forest-covered slopes down towards a river on the north bank of the Umeälven River.
This is the place that I have visit, take inspiration from and collected pigments from. I have made colors from the soil and sand around the area and used them in the first flowing layer of paint in this painting. I have found fallen leaves that I have printed on the canvas and from a fireplace I have used ash and charcoal from birch wood.
